Here you will find information on how to find your way to the Rainbow House Zurich and what you will find there.

Arrival

The Rainbow House is located in the Zollhaus at Zollstrasse 117, Zurich. Some of our events also take place in the Customs Kitchen, the Gleis Bar, or in meeting rooms (flex rooms). The Customs Kitchen is located at Zollstrasse 115–117. The Gleis Bar is at Zollstrasse 121. The flex rooms are distributed throughout the Zollhaus complex (Zollstrasse 117–121).

Arrival by public transport

From Zurich Main Station

At Zurich main station, take the Sihlquai exit. Walk straight ahead for approximately 8–10 minutes (approx. 650 m) along Zollstrasse.

From the Röntgenstrasse bus stop

Bus number 32 stops at the corner of Zollstrasse and Langstrasse, right by the Zollhaus. You just need to cross Zollstrasse.

Arrival by car: Parking spaces

We generally do not recommend arriving by car, as there is no parking at the Zollhaus and only a few spaces in the surrounding area. Wheelchair-accessible parking spaces can be found on Zollstrasse (directly opposite the Zollhaus main entrance, Zollstrasse 121), at Röntgenstrasse 17, and at Neugasse 80 (approximately a 5-minute walk to the Regenbogenhaus). If needed, wheelchair-accessible parking spaces can also be rented in the underground garage. In addition to the official parking space (No. 1), spaces No. 36 and 35 are also accessible for wheelchair users. Parking spaces No. 1 and 36 must be booked by the Regenbogenhaus association as flexible spaces – this requires advance notice.

Other parking spaces can be found in the white and blue zones in the neighborhood or in the main train station parking garage (distance to the Rainbow House approx. 10 minutes).

Orientation in the Zollhaus

By wheelchair

If you are using a wheelchair, you should use the main entrance at Zollstrasse 121. Take the lift to the first floor and then go through two sliding doors on this level into the neighboring building (117).

  • At the beginning of the long corridor on the right-hand side, opposite the laundry room, you will find the following three rooms of the Rainbow House: House of Color, House of Fluid, House of Books.

  • Further down the long corridor on the left-hand side is the House of Love.

  • Further down the long corridor (just past the elevator and stairwell in building 117), you'll find the customs kitchen on the right. Before reaching the kitchen, you'll pass a total of four doors on the right.

  • The Gleis-Bar is located on the same level in the building at Zollstrasse 121, opposite the elevator, behind the atrium.

On foot

The Rainbow House can be reached on foot via

  • The large external staircase between Zollstrasse 111 and 115: At the top, you go straight ahead through a sliding door into the long corridor; the Rainbow House is at the back of the corridor. To reach the main room of the Rainbow House, the House of Color, you will pass a total of 15 doors on the left (including doors to the stairwells). To reach the House of Love, you will pass a total of 12 doors on the right.

  • The stairwell of Zollstrasse 117. The front door can be opened with a key or badge; there is also a doorbell system. There is a lift in the stairwell, but it is not large enough for all wheelchairs. Take the lift to the first floor and enter the large hallway. The Zoll kitchen is on your right, the House of Love almost directly opposite, and the other rooms of the Rainbow House are on the left at the end of the hallway.

  • The large interior staircase is located at Zollstrasse 121. This staircase also leads directly into the Gleisbar. On the same level, you can access the neighboring building (117), the Regenbogenhaus (Rainbow House), through the two sliding doors.

  • The small external staircase leads to Zollstrasse 121. This staircase leads directly to the Gleis-Bar (Track Bar) at the exit of the Langstrasse underpass. On the same level, you can access the neighboring building (117) via the Gleisterrasse (Track Terrace) through a sliding door to the Regenbogenhaus (Rainbow House).

accessibility

The Zollhaus, and therefore the Rainbow House, is considered accessible; however, the following must still be observed:

For wheelchair users

  • Unfortunately, most of the doors in the customs house are not (yet) automated. Therefore, assistance may be needed to open the doors for elevator access. Please contact the person responsible for your event if you require assistance.

  • The entrance at Zollstrasse 117 is accessible if the door can be operated (in terms of movement and force) and the doorbell system can be used.

    • Lift cabin dimensions: 110 x 140 cm

    • Width of the door from the elevator/stairwell into the hallway (not automatic): 91 cm

  • We recommend using the entrance at Zollstrasse 121: There you will find a wide automatic sliding door as the main entrance, and the lift is large enough for most wheelchairs, even those with a traction device.

Width of the door from the foyer to the elevator: 98 cm

Width of the lift door (automatic): 90 cm

    • Door from the kitchenette into the hallway (not automatic): 91 cm

  • There is an accessible toilet at the Rainbow House, accessible with a Eurokey: on the 1st floor at Zollstrasse 117 in the hallway where the other toilets are also located (at the level of the customs kitchen) and one at the toilet facilities on the ground floor at Zollstrasse 121. In case of emergency, there is a Eurokey in the safe at the Rainbow House.

  • In the building at Zollstrasse 121, there is a night exit right next to the elevator. This door is automated and suitable for leaving the building, but not for entering (a key is required).

For people with hearing impairments

  • Arrival and access to the Rainbow House are barrier-free.

  • Acoustics: The Rainbow House offers modular (reducible) rooms and curtains for sound absorption (and privacy).

For people with visual impairments

  • Guidelines lead to the main entrance of Zollstrasse 121. The external staircase at the house Zollstrasse 115 is also marked by guidelines.

  • Unfortunately, the doorbell system is only usable by sighted people. Please contact the person responsible for the respective event in advance to arrange for pickup at the entrance and also for directions from the entrance or elevator to the correct room in the Rainbow House.

  • The lifts have a voice output and buttons with relief lettering.

  • The stairwells are equipped with handrails.

  • The Rainbow House has curtains to protect participants from glare.

For people with mental health conditions

  • The Rainbow House offers modular (reducible) rooms and curtains for soundproofing and privacy.
